Aerodynamic study of a Hyperloop pod equipped with compressor to overcome the Kantrowitz limit

This paper describes an investigation of the aerodynamic performance a Hyperloop pod equipped with axial compressor using CFD simulation. The is expected to reduce drag if operational speed exceeds Kantrowitz Limit (KL). To evaluate effectiveness compressor, two types have been designed: those and without compressor. A validation study was undertaken for supersonic flow around cylindrical body in wind tunnel. Several combinations Mach number blockage ratios were examined. modeled fan interface model our original method, which we call source terms model. Results are similar, but has advantage that it can be applied higher pressure inducing numerical instabilities. power consumption reduced owing by decreasing accumulated front pod. shown greater conditions well above KL, maximum reduction 47.5%. Simulations performed half-scale, at different system pressure, showed not greatly influenced these parameters.
